Owen Owens

Owen completed an MSc at the University of Manitoba in Canada, focusing on the geochemical role of first-year sea ice on atmosphere-ocean gas exchange in the Canadian Arctic.  Since graduating, Owen has worked in the European head office of IUCN in Brussels and in the private sector as a chemical researcher developing new methods for recapturing hydrogen from waste gas streams.

Christian Carey

Chris holds a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, a master's in Engineering Applications of Lasers, and a PhD in Laser Forming of Fibre Metal Laminates, all from the University of Liverpool. He is currently investigating recent advancements in technology and its possible application in reducing the impact of aviation on the environment. Of particular interest is the application of novel materials and manufacturing processes to aerospace situations.

 

Christian Carey

Aaron completed a BSc in Chemistry at Queen’s University in Canada in 2003 and is an MSc candidate in Environmental Policy at the University of Oxford.  He has conducted research in theoretical and computational chemistry, biotechnology, environmental policy, and public health policy.  Before coming to Oxford, Aaron worked as a research assistant and researcher in the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University.

In November 2009, Aaron joined the group 2041 on an Antarctic expedition to encourage tomorrow's leaders to care about the environment. Read the expedition blog and Aaron's own blog.

Nick Owen

Nick graduated from Melbourne University with a BSc in Biochemistry and BE in Structural Engineering. Upon leaving he gained industry experience in large infrastructure and the built environment before deciding to pursue his interest in environmental issues and sustainability. He recently graduated with distinction from the MPhil programme in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge, and spent the past year setting up a company with other students and academics that serves as a platform to generate sustainable solutions for industry.

 

 

Nick Owen

Tara Shirvani

Tara is an internationally raised and multi-lingual individual with a degree in Business Administration from École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP-EAP) and a first class MPhil degree in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge. She amplified her educational background through her professional experience at Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

 Tara Shirvani

Xiaoyu Yan

Xiaoyu completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London, in 2008. He then joined the Energy Research Group based in the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary as a postdoctoral research assistant, working on the assessment of nano metallic particles as alternative fuels for internal combustion engines. His expertise covers performance of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines, life cycle analysis for alternative fuels, energy demand, environmental impacts, and policies in the transport sector.

Hannah Behrendt

Hannah completed a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Oxford in 2008, where she was awarded a college benefactors' prize, and is currently reading for an MPhil in Economics at Oxford.  Her research interests include microeconomic policy and political economy. She has also worked as an economic consultant, focusing on energy and competition policy.

 

Hannah Behrendt

Laura Maconi

Laura completed an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford in 2008. She graduated cum laude in July 2006 from Bocconi University, where she studied International Economics and Management. In 2005 she spent one semester as an exchange student at the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests are in the field of transportation economics, competition policy, and evolutionary game theory.

Alex completed a BSc in Economics at the LSE in 2008 and is now an MPhil candidate in Economics at Oxford. His research interests lie in behavioural and public economics and political economy. He worked as an economic consultant for an environmental project in the UK and as a policy writer for the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Centre for the Study of African Economies.
